Strike Witches 2 Episode 6 focuses on the characters of Sanya and Eila as the 501st Joint Fighter Wing try to tackle a huge Neuroi threatening Romania.

The title of Strike Witches 2 episode 6 is titled “Sora Yori Takaku,” which means “Higher than the Sky” when translated.

The episode opens with the whole 501st Joint Fighter Wing minus commander Minna and Sanya who is set to take care of night duty. The girls discover a huge, tower-like Neuroi which begins from the ground, pierces the clouds and rises up past the stratosphere. Mio calls for everyone to return to base as she realises that there’s no way to launch an attack on the Neuroi’s core since their jet strikers top off at 10,000 feet which makes it impossible for any of the team to even reach the core as they are.

As the group is returning to base, Yoshika feels a little envy towards Eila who is an extremely skilled flier. As she has the ability to predict the enemy’s next move, it makes it unnecessary for her to ever summon a magical shield in combat. Yoshika feels her shields are her only strong suit and is upset Eila is able to think so little of them so casually.

Strike Witches 2 Episode 6 Plot

Minna and Mio discuss the failures of the Navy and Airforce who have already attempted to destroy the Neuroi. As they plot their plan of attack, both rightly believe that the only ones capable of handling such an enemy are the strike witches.

A group meeting is called and Major Sakamoto explains the situation to the rest of the girls. It is decided that through the use of rocket boosters which will attach to the jet strikers, the group will be able to propel two of their members into the air high enough to reach the altitude required to engage the Neuroi at its core.

The strike witch chosen for the job is Sanya due to her ability to produce extreme fire power through the use of her weapon, the Flieger-hammer rocket launcher. Eila, Sanya’s partner insists on joining her on the mission but because of the dangers involved which has a lot to do with the magical drain the rocket boosters place on the witches, major Sakamoto and commander Minna both believe Eila needs to be protected by the group’s best defensive shield user, which happens to be series protagonist Yoshika.

Eila is incensed at having to leave Sanya’s protection to Yoshika but due to her lack of practice at producing shields, her complaints were not entertained by her superiors. Eila attempts to practice forming shields with the help of Lynne and Perrine but it soon proves to be a difficult exercise as her primary instinct is to dodge rather than block. Eila soon gives up the exercise which causes her to get into a fight with Sanya who is annoyed with her seemingly off handed decision.

However, on the day of the mission, Eila refuses to allow Sanya to attempt it without her and Yoshika understandingly allows her to reach the altitude needed to attempt the mission and the two partners destroy the enemy together.

Strike Witches 2 Pace and Content

As expected Strike Witches 2 episode 6, being the episode mid-way through the series showcased a more serious Neuroi enemy. The pace was quite action oriented as the 501st begins the episode midway through a mission and the episode also ends with the big attack on the huge Neuroi with the middle parts showcasing Eila’s defensive training.

Some highlights of the episode 6 also include the humour which stems from Eila’s jealousy towards Yoshika and her belief that order-loving Perinne who was at odds with the newbie Yoshika during the first season would be the best person to help her ‘defeat’ Yoshika and become the one chosen to protect Sanya.

Other interesting parts of the episode is the long, musical sequence during Sanya and Eila’s battle with the Neuroi at the end of the episode which has a backing track which is more than likely performed by the characters’ seiyuu, play throughout.
